Beastiary
The Drow have their own page, but the other dominant races amongst the sands are listed here. I'll work on better write-ups as time goes on.

MINOTAURS
MINOTAURS (Gul's) Beside the Drow this race is most prevalent amongst the ebony dunes. Born and breed by my kin, Minotaurs are raised from birth to be the perfect work force and military. Raised in Gul's shadow all minotaurs have black hair and shiny ebony horns.
Those slaves of the Drow wear no clothes but often sport bandolier straps and belts with lots of pouches and pockets.
Minotaurs are trained only for specific functions and are deliberately left ignorant in the ways of caring for themselves. This channeling of their anger and training makes them excellent slaves.
B.S. minotaur average 8' tall and 300+ lbs with females only being slightly smaller in stature. Living an average of 50 years, no minotaur dies of old age. With most dying in combat either from enemies of the Drow or by their own kind. To further control the "herds" the Drow have sowed mistrust amongst the minotaurs. Thus infighting is common and moralities high. The Drow know it is cheaper to just raise a new "colt" than to care for an old, or weak one.
Gul's (as the Drow call them) have developed several now inborn abilities in their long years of breeding by the Drow. All Gul's can detect Gul's (the Volcano) direction no matter where they are within the desert. This location ability is encouraged in navel Gul's as they sail across the sands. Gul are largely immune to the intense heat generated by the volcano and their short fur is widely spaced to improved insulation. Gul have also developed a special 2nd eyelid common to some higher races in B.S. This inner lid specially evolved to help filter out the large amounts of ash and soot in the air. In such situations all Gul can see normally, and only large quantities of ash, and smoke can blind them.
Gul feet have evolved to walk on the often soft packed ash. Gul hooves are large, acting like snow shows for the massive beings. Also large are their wide sweeping horns. Gul horns average half as long as they are tall. The wide curving sweep cuts a lot off the often 4'long horns. Gul may impale victims close to them and often favor running their targets down in a goring head butt.
GOBLINS, SAND (JEWE)
This diminutive goblinoid race has adapted perfectly to Black Sands harsh climate. Standing between 2 and 3 feet tall this race is always covered from head to toe in black hooded robes and carry pong sticks for protection. Jewe make use of galguras snails to travel about the desert, sweeping it for anything of value. Jewe are the ultimate scavengers and can make use of anything.
Jewe travel in clans of between 30 and 50 members, often hollowing out the galguras shell so much that the snail dies. Clans without such snails are rare and nomadic. Roaming the sands until they find another host.
Jewe seem to have an innate ability to understand any language, but no known race has been able to decipher theirs. Often sounding like bursts of static, theirs is a strange tongue.
Jewe are nomadic, sweeping the desert clean. But often they come across groups or small towns. When this happens the Jewe "set up shop". Jewe are brave traders willing to bargain even with the Drow and often selling the original items back to their owners (for a slightly inflated price). Jewe favor anything that makes their lives better. Thus some clans may seek water (and be willing to pay for it.) while others seek only gold. Brave as they are, there is but one race the Jewe won't trade with, The Thri-Kreen. Jewe are deathly afraid of the insect men and will go out of their way to avoid them.

Thri- Kreen "Mantis Warriors"
Thri-Kreen Even more deadly (it is whispered) than the Drow, are the black shelled Thri-Kreen Mantis Warriors! Blending perfectly with the dark sands of the desert, the Mantis Warriors are the scourge of the Black Sands.
Their insect bodies do not radiate enough heat for most races to see them, and their eerie silence has unnerved many a warrior as they advance in overwhelming numbers. The Thri are deadly efficient in the hunting of other races. They always travel in packs (20 + d20), so as to better overwhelm their quarry, and they make great use of sand dunes and other natural cover so as to better insure surprise.
Thri are also experts in the use of covered pits for traps and ambushes. An adult Thri can completely submerge itself in the sand in about a minute. Such buried Krill are almost impossible to notice, and have a +4 bonus to surprise rolls using such tactics.
Thrill have walked the sands for as long as the Drow, ancient history (unspoken or regarded by the Drow) bespeaks of them as companions and servants of the original Elven community that existed here. The Thri-Krill went from relative peacefulness, to a race dedicated to killing the despoilers of their lands!
Krill take no prisoners, but they aggressively act to tear apart any Drow encountered. Thri normally eat their victims, but refuse to eat the Drow!
Elementals
Elementals of several different varieties can be found within Black Sands. Air Elementals often appear as spiraling vortexes of air. Many are the Drow who Skied onto a Dust Devil only to die in the whipping sand filled grasp of an angry Air Elemental.
Air Elementals seem drawn to the area because of the chaotic turbulent air around Mount Gel. Several are the occurrences of Heat Glyder piloting Drow, reporting battles between such beings amongst the violent air currents of ash and soot that are emitted by the volcano!

From the black sands around Mount Gel erupt some of the largest, most violent Earth Elementals ever to be seen. Jet black in color, these roving mounds of ash and soot revel in destruction. For some reason the jet black Earth Elementals appear in groups such as has never been seen before. Gangs of these creatures range from 4 to 8 per pack and nothing is left standing in their wake. Packs spontaneously form at certain points in B.S. and without a known cause they move to a point unknown save to themselves. Anything they encounter along the way is destroyed as they move with single-mindedness toward the unknown spot. Drow patrols have recorded several occurrences where the viscous creatures suddenly stopped for some unknown reason and simply melted down into the ash!
Elementals of other varieties appear as well, but one thing is common amongst them, they are the biggest, and strongest of their kind.

Undead
Undead of many different varieties may be found in use or at random across the Black Sands.
Liches are known to have secretive lairs dug amongst the ever deepening soot and ash. Some even having found ways to communicate with the alien Thri-Kreen. Liches typically have dug down into the ash and soot deep enough to have inhabited some of the ruins known to still exist since Gel first blew. Sections of buildings may be connected by miles of tunnels, and filled with all manor of Undead loyal to the Lich.
The B.S. sands have a property that toughens and hardens Undead flesh. Zombies and ghouls are normally leathery black colored beings, with obsidian colored claws and exposed bones!
Skeletons are always found with jet black bones, which gleam eerily in certain lighting.
Because of the nature of the races in Black Sands, it is common place for the dead to be "recycled" into Undead servants. The Drow are probably the biggest violators of the dead, and slaves often serve longer dead than alive. Undead are generally not made of close family members (of ruling families!), but lower caste members, slaves, and animals are often found running various errands for their Dark Elven Masters!
The Jewe (Sand Goblins) use Ash Zombies as agents and servants. Their secret process to create these are often used on those who double cross them!
The Thri-Kreen have an unnatural fear of the Undead, and they will rely on ranged attacks to dispose of them! Thri-Kreen will not eat the flesh of the Undead, and can sense their very presence at a range of about 100'.
Plantlife
Undead Treants, Vampire Cacti, and more violent plants exist in Black Sands.
Worms, and Mantas
Sand Worms, Sand Mantas and more roam the deadly sands of this dark desert.
Illithid
Living far below the sands, The illithid prey on all others above the sands. Even the dread Thri Kreen fear the mental powers of the squidmen!

Manscorpions & Driders
These horrible mutants roam Black Sands in search of any victim they can find. Often traveling in small packs, these creatures are mindless in their fury!

There be Dragons
Though few and far between, there are dragons who make Black Sands their home.
